Salem Kids’ Cemetery Hunt is an easy, fun way for young kids to explore Salem’s second-oldest burial ground, the Broad Street Cemetery. Your child can run around, take pics, and learn a little about a historic place. No sitting still, listening to a long presentation, or getting scared by ghost stories.

Here’s everything you need to know before you book.

• Best for ages 5–10

  The hunt asks for simple finds— like finding headstones of particular shapes. It is best for young kids.

  A grown-up must stay with each group the whole time. There is no charge for adult companions, who do not receive hunt supplies.

• Sticker-printing camera provided

  Each child receives a sticker-printing camera and a clipboard with the scavenger hunt items. They document their finds by snapping a pic and affixing it to their hunt sheet.

  We collect the camera at the end, but the completed sheet is yours to keep. Kids receive a small prize at the end to reward their hunting!

• The scavenger hunt takes about an hour

  The duration of the hunt depends a bit on your child. Most finish in about an hour, but older or particularly focused kids may finish faster.

• Meet at the cemetery entrance

  Meet Kate, the hunt coordinator, at the main entrance of the Broad Street Cemetery on the corner of Broad and Winthrop Streets.

• No parking, no bathrooms— sorry!

  There is no reliable parking and are no bathrooms near the Broad Street Cemetery. It’s best to take care of business beforehand and arrive on foot! The Broad Street Cemetery is walkable from downtown.

• Rain cancellations

  We will email you and provide a refund if the weather is looking too bad for a pleasant hunt.
